While it may seem simple–a fluid that helps your car run–the answer to this question is much more complex. A car’s oil carries great responsibility in making sure it is able to run properly. Your car’s oil travels throughout the engine, lubricating the intricate parts so there is no friction.
Additionally, your oil will pick up dirt and debris that would otherwise clog your engine. In mitigating these two areas, your car’s oil will help to keep your engine running optimally.
Over time, because the oil in your car is responsible for cleaning, the oil itself will become dirty and will need to be changed. If left unattended to, old oil will seriously inhibit your car’s ability to run correctly and could lead to major damage.
While critical to a vehicle’s health, the process of an oil change is actually relatively simple. The process involves draining your old oil and removing your oil filter. The next step is to insert new oil and a new oil filter, and your car will be ready to go!
When it is time to schedule an oil change will depend on a number of factors. Firstly, the type of oil comes into play. If your car runs on regular oil, it will typically need attention between 5,000 and 7,500 road miles. However, if your car runs on synthetic oil, this number increases, allowing you to go longer without service.
Unsure what type of oil your car has? Bring it in to our service center and we’ll be happy to help.
Outside of regularly scheduled service intervals, there are some signs that could point to a potential issue with your oil. These include:
